Target Audience: This training is highly recommended for designated ADR Coordinators representing state agencies/entities. We welcome new ADR Coordinators, as well as those who would like a refresher course. Come and learn about the new ADR services in State Government! This is an interactive, online training; to participate most effectively, you will need strong Wi-Fi with a working camera and microphone on your computer. This training will help you understand:
• your role as the designated ADR Coordinator for your agency
• the importance of your formal agency designation
• what the term “ADR” entails
• the benefits of mediation AND
• how to make effective ADR assessments and service requests
Participants will be introduced to:
• the mediation process
• program resources AND
administrative requirements such as confidentiality, forms, record keeping and quarterly reports
Facilitator: April McClellan trained as a mediator in 2013 at the UNM Anderson School of Business as a graduate student of the School of Public Administration. She volunteers as a mediator for the Albuquerque Metropolitan Court and serves as a mediator for the State of NM ADR Bureau in her role as statewide Mediation Coordinator. She is native indigenous New Mexican (Po-Woh-Geh-Owingeh) born in Santa Fe. Her previous work includes Fingerprint Examiner, Death Investigator and Advocate for Survivors of Sexual Assault. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher 200 and a Second Degree Usui Reiki Practitioner.

You were promoted to a new role and now you will supervise people who were once your coworkers. This change in position and power can be difficult, stressful, and sometimes outright awkward just as much as it can be exciting. How are you going to handle yourself? How will you work with those who were your peers? Join us in this session as we cover new supervisor topics related to accountability, communication, collaboration, and coaching. During this interactive session, you will be provided with tools to help you become more efficient, proficient, and confident in your new role.
Facilitator: Teresa D. Burgin is the owner of Constructive Consultants NM in Las Cruces, NM. She is a certified mediator for the State of New Mexico Alternative Dispute Resolution program, New Mexico Magistrate Court, and the Children’s Court Mediation Program. Prior to her retirement July 1, 2021, she held the position of Director at New Mexico State University Center for Learning & Professional Development. She obtained both Bachelor of Science in Education, and Master of Information Science degrees from Indiana University, Bloomington, IN. As a mediator, teacher, trainer and group facilitator, Ms. Burgin has presented on topics related to organizations and global culture, management and leadership, communication styles, working with challenging people, time management, customer service, conflict resolution, team building, preventing harassment, diversity, equity and inclusion, accountability, and ethics. Ms. Burgin has served in various organizations as mediator, psychiatric services group facilitator, domestic violence interventionist, and child advocacy since 1980. She believes that effective communication and listening skills are achievable and all humans deserve the opportunity to practice them while working toward a peaceful existence.
