State Printing Goes Green
State Printing is now printing products with environmentally friendly materials and processes. If you want to create greener documents but don’t know where to start, we can help.
Maximize layout and minimize waste
Use standard paper sizes. Even the slightest adjustments in size can result in less wasted paper and significant cost savings. Developing your piece using standard size pages - 5.5 x 8.5, 8.5 x 11, 11 x 17 allows us to efficiently produce your piece multiple times up on our larger press sheets.
Design with less ink coverage. Designing with less ink coverage means less cleanup thus fewer chemicals used.
Choose recycled paper
Choosing recycled paper seems an obvious choice to keep your project green, or eco-friendly. Even though recycled paper is becoming a more popular item, easier to find, and has higher post-consumer waste content, it can be more expensive. The positive benefit of being environmentally responsible can outweigh the out-of-pocket expense.
Although, the type of paper selected is important in carrying out the style of the overall design, be aware that unusual paper stocks that must be special ordered from a paper mill can be expensive and could require additional time for delivery.
Colored inks on colored papers provide a wide range of opportunities and potential problems. Inks are transparent and therefore, are affected by paper color and absorbency. The true color of your selected inks will show up best when printed on white papers. Samples of paper stock "swatches", as well as a large variety of ink colors, are available for review at the Printing Services offices. Printed samples are also available to aid in paper and ink selection. We will be more than pleased to assist you.
View your proofs as a PDF onscreen
Proofing your job before it is printed is highly recommended. It is also something you may want to do several times before you submit your job to us. Thorough proofing should be taken seriously and is necessary to avoid costly re-runs. Electronic online PDF proofs save time and waste less paper because you can view your proof on screen rather than waiting for a proof to be delivered to you and then have it returned to us. Simply include your email address on the printing order form where it asks for the kind of proof requested.
Proofreading is one of the most important parts you play in the preparation of your publication. Please use a red pen to mark all corrections, using the standard proofreading marks. If you are proof reading an electronic file, please feel free to e-mail us your changes if this is best for you.
