Letter from Secretary Arturo L. Jaramillo
January 1, 2008

Secretary Arturo L. Jaramillo

As we begin the second half of Fiscal Year 2008, a quiet but positive transformation of the General Services Department is becoming evident. Two years ago, our executive management team established four core values for GSD:

Open Communication, Mutual Respect, Professionalism and Accountability

Capitol Parking Structure / PERA Parking Lot Update

10/1/2008 - Construction work on the footings for the new Capitol Parking Structure that begins after the first of October will necessitate the elimination of 12 more parking spaces at the Coughlin Building. More contractor trailers, vehicles and materials need to be moved onto the site. A few spaces reserved for DFA will be marked as such in Coughlin Unit 6.

Any questions may be directed to the Project Manager, Martha Perrins-Dallman, at the Property Control Division (email martha.perrins-dallman@state.nm.us).

We thank you for your patience during this period.

We have focused on instilling those values at GSD through a wide variety of approaches, such as conducting frequent division meetings, encouraging all-hands meetings, providing internal training programs for staff and management on the competencies of emotional intelligence, leadership, team building and communications skills, sponsoring employee appreciation lunches, and maintaining an open-door policy in my office and at the division management level. To determine whether these steps are making a difference, we conducted customer and employee surveys in December, 2007, and the results are heartening.

Click here for the survey results.

All-in-all, we are very encouraged and increasingly confident that progress is being made in this highly diverse and complex department and that a new era has begun at GSD.
